Job summary

New England Biolabs in Ipswich, MA is seeking a Development Scientist to join the Applications and Product Development team. You will develop and characterize protein expression workflows, automate high-throughput assays, and collaborate across groups to advance novel reagents and workflows.

The role emphasizes independent work, rigorous data analysis, and strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, Bioengineering or related field with 2–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work independently and across teams while managing multiple priorities.
  • Hands-on CFPS/IVTT experience and protein engineering background.
  • Experience with strain engineering, DNA assembly, PCR workflows and cloning.
  • Strong data analysis and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques for protein characterization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and characterize novel protein expression and modification workflows.
  • Develop automated high-throughput assays for protein testing.
  • Collaborate across teams to de-risk projects and launch products.
  • Stay current with cell-free biology and protein engineering advances and apply them.
  • Provide technical content and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Engage customers to identify needs and deliver solutions.
