Job summary

New England Biolabs (NEB) is seeking a Development Scientist to advance protein expression, analysis and biomanufacturing workflows. You will work independently and with teams to develop novel reagents and workflows, engage with customers, and learn from colleagues across the company.

Title level will be determined by experience. The role offers opportunities to collaborate on strategic projects, attend conferences and contribute to product launches.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, Bioengineering or related field.
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of protein expression, protein characterization and molecular biology.
  • Ability to work both independently and across teams.
  • Hands-on CFPS/IVTT experience and protein engineering exposure.
  • Experience with strain engineering, DNA assembly, PCR workflows, cloning and high-throughput assays.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and characterize novel solutions to support protein expression, analysis and modification workflows for bioengineering and biomanufacturing.
  • Develop automated high-throughput assays for protein expression and activity testing.
  • Collaborate across the company to de-risk projects, launch and support products.
  • Stay current with cell-free biology, enzyme engineering, synthetic biology, and computational protein engineering; translate into strategies.
  • Provide technical content and communication of results to stakeholders.
  • Engage customers and collaborators to identify needs and deliver solutions.
