Job summary

Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) is seeking a highly organized Development Operations & Events Manager to drive fundraising operations and oversee events. This role oversees donor database management, gift processing, reporting, and stewardship, while supervising the Development Operations & Events Assistant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development operations, event management, or related field.
  • Experience with donor databases/CRM systems, preferably Raiser's Edge.
  • Experience managing fundraising and donor cultivation events.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related software applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

POSITION SUMMARY

Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Development Operations & Events Manager to play a central role in advancing the organization's fundraising goals. This position serves as the operational backbone of the Development Department, overseeing donor database management, gift processing, reporting, stewardship systems, and fundraising event execution while supervising the Development Operations & Events Assistant.

The Development Operations & Events Manager will work closely with the Chief Development Officer, development staff, executive leadership, volunteers, board members, and external vendors to ensure the effective implementation of fundraising strategies, donor engagement initiatives, and special events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Development Operations
  • Serve as the primary administrator of JBBBSLA's donor database (Raiser's Edge or comparable CRM), ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Manage gift processing, donor record maintenance, acknowledgement systems, and donor stewardship tracking.
  • Develop and maintain fundraising reports, dashboards, and analytics for leadership, board committees, and development staff.
  • Generate donor profiles, prospect research reports, and meeting briefing materials.
  • Maintain donor segmentation strategies and mailing lists for fundraising campaigns and stewardship efforts.
  • Track fundraising performance against annual goals and provide regular reporting to leadership.
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate gift reconciliation and reporting.
  • Oversee development systems, procedures, and workflows to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manage donor recognition programs and ensure timely acknowledgements and stewardship touchpoints.
  • Support annual giving, major gifts, institutional giving, planned giving, strategic partnerships, and annual campaign initiatives.
  • Maintain the Development Department calendar and key fundraising timelines.
Event Management
  • In collaboration with the Chief Development Officer, lead planning and execution of all fundraising, stewardship, and cultivation events.
  • Develop event timelines, project plans, budgets, run-of-show documents, and logistics schedules.
  • Manage event registration systems, seating plans, guest lists, and attendee communications.
  • Coordinate vendors, venues, catering, audiovisual production, rentals, signage, and other event logistics.
  • Serve as internal lead for major fundraising events including: Big Event, Golf Classic, Sunday Funday, Donor cultivation gatherings, Recognition receptions, Board and committee events.
  • Manage sponsorship fulfillment and donor recognition opportunities related to events.
  • Oversee event budgets and monitor performance against revenue and expense goals.
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate event volunteers and committee members.
  • Conduct post-event reporting, evaluations, and recommendations for future improvements.
  • Ensure a high-quality donor and guest experience at all events.
Staff Management & Leadership
  • Provide direct supervision, training, coaching, and professional development for the Development Operations & Events Assistant.
  • In collaboration with the CDO, establish goals, priorities, and performance expectations for direct reports.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and annual performance evaluations.
  • Delegate and oversee operational, administrative, stewardship, and event-related responsibilities.
  • Support the hiring, onboarding, and training of interns, temporary staff, and volunteers as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer service-oriented culture within the Development team.
  • Partner with the Chief Development Officer to identify process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Departmental Support
  • Prepare materials for donor meetings, Development Committee meetings, Board meetings, and campaign planning sessions.
  • Support donor stewardship and engagement efforts through personalized outreach and recognition initiatives.
  • Assist with special projects and strategic fundraising initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to support organizational goals and promote a culture of philanthropy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development operations, event management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with donor databases/CRM systems, preferably Raiser's Edge.
  • Experience managing fundraising and donor cultivation events.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS (FIRST 12 MONTHS)

  • Produce accurate monthly fundraising reports and dashboards.

  • Contribute to achieving overall organizational fundraising goals through strong operational support, donor stewardship, and event execution.
