Descrição da oferta de emprego

The Development & Ministry Outreach Officer is a relationship-driven ministry position responsible for developing and strengthening relationships with major donors, prospective donors, churches, and ministry partners. The primary purpose of this position is to communicate the mission and impact of the ministry, cultivate long-term relationships, increase financial support, and identify new opportunities for ministry partnerships. This is a highly relational, field-based position, with approximately 90% of the time spent outside the office meeting with donors, prospective donors, churches, businesses, and ministry partners.

The Development & Ministry Outreach Officer represents the ministry with professionalism, integrity, enthusiasm, and a genuine heart for people and the Gospel.

Primary Responsibilities
1. Major Donor Relationship Development
  • Manage and cultivate an assigned portfolio of major donors and prospective major donors.
  • Establish consistent, personal contact with assigned donors through face-to-face meetings, phone calls, texts, handwritten notes, emails, and other appropriate communication.
  • Schedule regular appointments with donors to learn their stories, interests, passions, and connection to the ministry.
  • Clearly communicate the ministry's vision, mission, impact, and opportunities for partnership.
  • Develop relationships that move beyond financial transactions into meaningful, long-term ministry partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities to increase the level of financial commitment from existing donors through additional gifts, monthly giving, special projects, sponsorships, and capital or ministry initiatives.
  • Identify and cultivate prospective donors who have the capacity and interest to become major ministry partners.
  • Maintain detailed records of donor interactions, commitments, interests, family information, and follow-up opportunities.
2. Personal Donor Stewardship

The Development & Ministry Outreach Officer will intentionally know and care for the people entrusted to their portfolio.

This includes maintaining appropriate personal information such as:

  • Birthdays
  • Wedding anniversaries
  • Spouse and children's names
  • Personal interests
  • Significant family events
  • Ministry and community involvement
  • Previous conversations and areas of prayer

Use this information to create meaningful personal touches, including:

  • Birthday cards
  • Anniversary cards
  • Personal phone calls
  • Personal texts
  • Prayer contacts
  • Invitations to ministry events
  • Other appropriate expressions of appreciation

The goal is for donors to know that they are valued not simply for what they give, but for who they are and their partnership in advancing the mission together.

3. Church Outreach and Development
  • Develop relationships with pastors, church leadership, missions leaders, and key church members.
  • Schedule appointments and ministry presentations with churches throughout the ministry's service area.
  • Secure opportunities to speak during services, Sunday school classes, small groups, men's/women's groups, missions events, or other appropriate church gatherings.
  • Coordinate and host ministry booths at churches and ministry events.
  • Represent the various ministry verticals and communicate how each is helping share hope, encouragement, the Gospel, and the truth of Jesus Christ.
  • Identify churches that may become ongoing financial or ministry partners.
  • Encourage churches to participate in special initiatives, campaigns, events, and outreach opportunities.
4. Events and Sponsorship Development
  • Personally invite major donors and prospective donors to ministry events, banquets, special gatherings, and donor appreciation events.
  • Encourage donors to bring friends, family members, business associates, or other potential ministry partners.
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities for ministry events and personally present those opportunities to qualified donors and businesses.
  • Secure event sponsorships and additional financial commitments.
  • Use ministry events as opportunities to introduce new people to the mission and develop future relationships.
5. New Donor Development
  • Continually identify individuals, families, churches, businesses, foundations, and organizations that may have an interest in supporting the ministry.
  • Develop a systematic process for moving prospects from initial contact to appointment, relationship development, ministry presentation, financial partnership, and long-term stewardship.
  • Make consistent development calls and personal visits.
  • Follow up persistently and professionally with prospects who have expressed interest.
  • Seek opportunities to expand the ministry's financial base rather than relying solely on existing donors.
6. Revenue Development

The Development & Ministry Outreach Officer will have measurable responsibility for increasing ministry revenue.

This includes:

  • Growing the financial commitment of assigned major donors.
  • Increasing monthly and recurring giving.
  • Securing event sponsorships.
  • Developing church partnerships.
  • Soliciting special gifts and project funding.
  • Supporting annual fundraising campaigns and special initiatives.
  • Participating in Share-a-Thons, year-end giving, and other ministry fundraising efforts.
  • Establishing weekly activity and financial goals and consistently working toward them.

The position is expected to produce measurable growth in both relationships and revenue.

Field-Based Expectations

Because this is primarily an external relationship-development position, the Development & Ministry Outreach Officer should expect to spend approximately 90% of their working time outside the office.

Typical activities may include:

  • Donor appointments
  • Home visits
  • Lunch and coffee meetings
  • Church appointments
  • Ministry presentations
  • Church booth opportunities
  • Business visits
  • Event preparation and attendance
  • Sponsorship presentations
  • Ministry tours
  • Follow-up visits and calls

The expectation is to be proactive rather than reactive—continually creating opportunities for meaningful conversations, appointments, ministry presentations, and financial partnerships.

Spiritual & Ministry Responsibilities

The Development & Ministry Outreach Officer should understand that this is a ministry position, not simply a fundraising position.

The individual should:

  • Have a genuine personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Demonstrate a passion for reaching people with the Gospel.
  • Understand and embrace the mission and values of the ministry.
  • Be comfortable sharing the ministry's testimony, vision, and impact with individuals and groups.
  • Pray for donors, prospects, churches, and ministry opportunities.
  • Represent the ministry in a manner that honors Christ.
  • Understand that financial development is ultimately about inviting people to participate in what God is doing through the ministry.
Qualifications & Characteristics

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a strong Christian testimony.
  • Passionate about ministry and reaching people for Christ.
  • Highly relational and comfortable meeting new people.
  • An excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Confident speaking to individuals, small groups, and churches.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable initiating conversations and asking for appointments and financial commitments.
  • Persistent in follow-up without being pushy or transactional.
  • Organized and disciplined in maintaining donor information and follow-up schedules.
  • Comfortable spending significant amounts of time traveling and working outside the office.
  • Able to build trust with high-capacity individuals and ministry leaders.
  • Personally warm, encouraging, professional, and trustworthy.
  • Results-oriented while maintaining a genuine ministry heart.

Previous experience in fundraising, development, major gifts, ministry, church relations, sales, account management, or nonprofit advancement is preferred.

Measures of Success

Success in this position will be measured by both relationship development and financial results, including:

  • Number and quality of donor appointments.
  • Number of new donor prospects developed.
  • Growth in assigned major-donor revenue.
  • Growth in monthly/recurring giving.
  • Number of new church relationships established.
  • Number of church presentations and ministry opportunities secured.
  • Event sponsorships secured.
  • Increased participation in ministry events.
  • Consistency and quality of donor follow-up.
  • Overall annual revenue growth.
  • Strength and longevity of donor relationships.
Core Philosophy

People before dollars. Relationships before transactions. Ministry before fundraising. The ultimate goal of this position is to develop genuine relationships with people who believe in the mission and invite them to become increasingly engaged in advancing that mission together. The Development & Ministry Outreach Officer should leave donors and prospective donors feeling known, appreciated, encouraged, prayed for, and excited about what God is doing through the ministry. Through intentional relationships, consistent follow-up, personal invitations, church outreach, and a clear presentation of the ministry's impact, this position will help expand the financial resources necessary to continue sharing hope, encouragement, and the truth of Jesus Christ with the Tennessee Valley and beyond.
