Job summary

The Guttmacher Institute is seeking a Development Manager, Major Gifts and Prospects to lead qualification, cultivation, and closing gifts from individual donors with major-gift capacity. This role includes managing a planned giving portfolio and producing donor materials for high-touch donors.

Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the position is remote with preferred candidates in the Northeast or West Coast and up to 30% travel within the US.

Qualifications

• 7 years of fundraising experience with a track record of closing major gifts (five figures+) and securing bequest pledges or planned gifts.
• Proactive donor outreach and relationship-building with prospects in a frontline role.
• Experience with donor qualification and moves management best practices.
• Ability to discuss planned giving and blended gift asks with donors.
• Excellent writing and communication skills for a discerning major-gift audience.
• Genuine interest in SRHR and commitment to DEI.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a thought partner to the Director of Individual Giving on cultivation and pipeline strategies for high-capacity donors.
• Identify prospects for portfolios and manage donor pipeline movements.
• Travel up to 30% within the US for donor visits and in-person collaboration.
• Create outreach plans and conduct discovery/qualification outreach to move prospects into active portfolios (~100 donors).
• Collaborate across giving functions to engage family foundations tied to donors.
• Qualify high-potential planned giving prospects and manage a portfolio of ~50 donors, soliciting bequests and blended gifts.
• Cultivate and solicit mid- to high-level donors, aiming five-figure+ gifts and progression in the pipeline.
• Write donor-facing materials (emails, proposals, stewardship reports) tailored to major prospects.
• Plan and support donor events for major gifts and planned giving.
• Maintain timely donor interaction records in the donor database.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
