Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Finance, Business or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly for a real estate developer, owner or vertically integrated investment and development platform.
  • Strong multifamily development experience across affordable, market-rate or luxury residential projects.
  • Experience managing projects through several stages of the development lifecycle, including due diligence, design, entitlements, permitting and construction.
  • Strong technical understanding of architectural plans, construction documents, building systems and development processes.
  • Experience managing architects, engineers, contractors and third-party consultants.
  • Working knowledge of multifamily development underwriting, financial modelling and project feasibility analysis.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate development pro formas, sources and uses, cash flows, return projections and sensitivity analyses.
  • Strong understanding of development budgets, construction costs, schedules and project risk.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with development and financial models.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong commercial judgment and the ability to balance technical project requirements with investment objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multifamily development projects from due diligence and initial feasibility through construction, completion and stabilization.
  • Coordinate architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, attorneys and other external project partners.
  • Lead design development, entitlement, zoning, permitting and municipal approval processes.
  • Review architectural drawings, construction documents, technical reports and consultant deliverables.
  • Maintain project development schedules, budgets, cost reports and milestone tracking.
  • Oversee general contractors and construction teams to ensure projects remain aligned with approved scope, budget, schedule and quality expectations.
  • Identify technical, financial and scheduling risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in site selection, due diligence, feasibility studies and acquisition evaluations.
  • Support the preparation, review and ongoing management of development underwriting and project pro formas.
  • Analyze development costs, operating assumptions, financing structures, projected returns and sensitivity scenarios.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of design changes, construction costs, schedule adjustments and market conditions.
  • Work closely with acquisitions, asset management, capital markets, finance and property management teams throughout the investment lifecycle.
  • Prepare development updates, investment memoranda, budget reports and recommendations for senior leadership and investment committees.
  • Assist with lender, investor and joint venture reporting as required.
  • Support project turnover, lease-up and stabilization initiatives following construction completion.
  • Maintain an informed understanding of local market conditions, construction pricing, regulatory requirements and multifamily operating trends.

A Multifamily real estate investment and development firm is seeking an experienced Development Manager to oversee projects throughout the development lifecycle, from initial due diligence and underwriting through design, entitlements, construction and delivery.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical development experience with a solid understanding of real estate underwriting and financial analysis.
