Overview

The American Lung Association invites applications for a Development Manager to lead the annual Fight For Air Climbs (St. Louis & Springfield, IL) and Oxygen Ball Gala fundraising campaigns. The role focuses on recruiting and cultivating sponsors, team captains, participants, and donors, while meeting revenue goals, managing budgets, timelines, vendors, and event logistics.

Location

The position is located at the American Lung Association’s St. Louis, Missouri office and will be a hybrid of in‑person and virtual work.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure event revenue goals are achieved by implementing industry best practices through year‑round cultivation of volunteers, sponsors, team captains, and participants.
  • Support the cultivation of event committees to engage new and returning event sponsors and corporate teams.
  • Implement grassroots and corporate recruitment strategies to engage new Climb team captains and build event participation and revenue.
  • Coach and retain Climb team captains and participants through defined year‑round cultivation strategies.
  • Create event‑day revenue drivers and secure auction items for the gala.
  • Support the cultivation of individual donors to retain gala attendees and promote fund‑a‑need giving.
  • Build relationships through personal outreach, meetings, kickoff events, and phone calls with partners, volunteers, and donors.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, evaluate campaign progress and results, and make recommendations for current and future growth.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, manage the event budget to keep expenses below the prescribed percentage by recruiting in‑kind sponsors or underwriters for the majority of event goods and services.
  • Work with Marketing/Communication staff to create campaign materials, identify volunteer spokespeople, secure and support media partnerships, and earn media coverage.
  • Supervise event logistics planning and serve as the lead staff on event day to provide an excellent experience for all attendees.
  • Implement, track, and report sponsor recognition and assets, including logo inclusion, event signage, videos, and social media.
  • Ensure accurate and timely website and database updates, including prospect tracking, invoicing, payment processing, and donor recognition.
  • Build community presence through additional fundraising opportunities such as third‑party events, DIY fundraising, and cause marketing.
  • Complete special projects as available or as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Non‑Profit Management, Marketing, or a related field (required).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated success in external relationship management and volunteer recruitment.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.
  • Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced work environment.
  • Superb organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficient in social and digital media.
  • Valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to travel within the assigned area 40% of the time for meetings and conferences, and flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and some overnights.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. of event supplies.
Compensation

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range is between $51,000 and $58,000 per annum.

Benefits
  • Paid Leave – 10 vacation days in the first year (15 days thereafter), 2 personal days, 15 sick days per year, and 12 company‑paid holidays. Paid Parental Leave is available for eligible employees.
