Job summary

Blue Star Families, Inc. seeks a Director of Development for the National Capital Region Chapter. This full-time, remote position focuses on local fundraising, donor cultivation, and strategic partnerships to sustain and grow chapter funding.

The role collaborates with the Chapter Executive Director and national team, with travel for in-person work several times yearly. The ideal candidate will manage a portfolio of donors, write grant proposals, and lead donor engagement initiatives while

Qualifications

• 7+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience.
• Proven success in individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
• CRM experience, preferably Salesforce.
• Willingness to travel up to 40% of time.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Director with the local fundraising strategy to meet or exceed chapter revenue goals.
• Meet or exceed an annual fundraising goal of at least $100,000.
• Build and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and advance them through the donor lifecycle.
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with donors, sponsors, and foundations.
• Collaborate with national team to identify funding opportunities aligned with chapter programs.
• Oversee donor recognition and ensure high-quality communication with funders.
• Support donor engagement events and activities; maintain donor records in CRM.
• Assist with grant proposals and reporting; coordinate with program staff to align fundraising and impact.
• Represent Blue Star Families at chapter events and in the community.
