Job summary

Blue Star Families is seeking a Director of Development for the National Capital Region Chapter. The role focuses on local fundraising, donor cultivation, and building strategic partnerships to sustain and grow chapter programs.

The position collaborates closely with the Chapter Executive Director and the national Development team to align local efforts with the organization’s mission. The Director will steward donors and support grant writing while working remotely with periodic travel.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of fundraising experience in nonprofit organizations.
• Proven success in individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, and major fundraising events.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
• Experience with CRM software (Salesforce).
• Local travel up to 40% or less depending on business needs.
• Ability to travel out of town overnight several times per year.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Director with local fundraising strategy to meet revenue goals.
• Meet or exceed an annual fundraising goal of at least $100,000.
• Build and manage a portfolio of at least 30 new major gift prospects.
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with donors, sponsors, and foundations.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and national team on funding opportunities.
• Ensure donor recognition and high-quality communication with funders.
