Job description

High Tech High Foundation | Hybrid, San Diego | Part-time, about 17 to 20 hours a week | $25 to $35 per hour, depending on experience

About Us

The High Tech High Foundation is the development arm for High Tech High’s 16 TK-12 public charter schools, serving more than 6,500 students across San Diego, and the High Tech High Graduate School of Education. We raise funds, build relationships with donors and partners, and support the parents, coaches, and teachers who raise money for their school communities. We’re a small team doing a lot, and every person here makes a real difference.

About the Role

You’ll work closely with our Executive Director and be the go-to person for community fundraising across our schools. Parent Associations, athletics boosters, student clubs, and teachers will come to you with questions, and you’ll help them raise money the right way. You’ll also help build and run our new High Tech High Alumni Association, reconnecting graduates with their schools and with each other. Beyond that, you’ll play a big part in planning and running our fundraising events, help with donor meetings, handle in-person tasks around San Diego like donor thank you cards and material pick-ups, and provide the administrative support that keeps our donor database and fundraising records clean and accurate. This role is a great fit for someone who loves being organized, has pulled off events before, picks things up quickly, and takes pride in getting the details right the first time.

Room to Grow

We’re building our development team, and we’re looking for someone who wants to grow with us. You’ll learn every part of nonprofit fundraising, from events and community campaigns to alumni engagement, donor relationships, and the systems that hold it all together. As you build skills and take on more ownership, we want this role to grow alongside you, with more responsibility, more hours, and a bigger part in shaping how we raise money for our schools.

What You’ll Do
  • Help plan and run fundraising events from start to finish, including timelines, vendors, venue logistics, and day-of coordination
  • Manage guest registration, sponsor benefits, auction and raffle tracking, signage, and volunteer coordination
  • Work events in person and help with setup, check-in, and follow-up afterward
Alumni Association
  • Help launch and manage the High Tech High Alumni Association, including setting up how alumni sign up, stay in touch, and get involved
  • Build and maintain an alumni contact list, filling in gaps for our earliest graduating classes
  • Recruit and support alumni volunteer leaders and class representatives
  • Support alumni gatherings and class reunions, working with alumni who lead the planning
  • Share regular updates with alumni through email and social media, and create ways for alumni to give back through mentoring, volunteering, and giving
In-person support
  • Work in person at least 6 hours a week, usually on a set schedule, plus events as they come up
  • Write, prepare, and mail donor thank you cards
  • Run errands around San Diego, like picking up and dropping off supplies, printed materials, signage, and donated items
  • Visit our campuses as needed to deliver materials, meet with parent volunteers, or support school events
  • Help with other in-person tasks that keep our fundraising running smoothly
  • Be the main point of contact for Parent Associations, athletics boosters, student clubs, and teachers who are fundraising, answering their questions and pointing them to the right handbooks and resources
  • Help set up and manage fundraising pages, forms, and campaigns in Bloomerang
  • Keep Parent Association records current, including officer contacts, budgets, and event calendars, and follow up on anything missing
  • Help groups follow Foundation processes, like submitting receipts in Expensify and sharing event details for insurance review, and send finance questions to our finance team
  • Support school-wide giving campaigns by tracking participation, preparing templates, and building simple reports
Donor support
  • Coordinate meetings with potential donors, sponsors, and partners, including scheduling, prep materials, and follow-up
  • Prepare gift acknowledgments and in-kind donation receipts
  • Help with outreach to local businesses for donations and sponsorships
Administrative support
  • Keep our donor database (Bloomerang) up to date, including entering gifts, updating contact information, logging donor interactions, and cleaning up duplicate records
  • Match gifts in Bloomerang with our finance team’s records so our numbers line up
  • Pull lists and simple reports for mailings, campaigns, and donor follow-up
  • Keep our shared Google Drive organized so files are easy to find
  • Track supplies, order what we need, and keep our materials stocked for events and mailings
  • Help prepare board meeting materials and minutes
What We’re Looking For
  • You want to build a career in nonprofit development and grow with our organization over time.
  • Event planning experience. You’ve helped plan and run events and know how many small details go into a great one.
  • You learn fast. Once you’ve been shown how to do something, you can do it on your own next time.
  • You’re detail-oriented. You check your work before calling it done.
  • You welcome feedback and put it into practice right away.
  • You manage your time well and hit deadlines. When you can’t, you say so early.
  • You communicate clearly and kindly, especially with parent volunteers who are learning new systems.
  • You enjoy building community and keeping people connected.
  • You’re fluent in Google Workspace, especially Google Sheets. You’re comfortable with formulas, sorting and filtering, and cleaning up messy data.
  • You’re comfortable with project management tools like Monday.com.
  • You live in or near San Diego, have reliable transportation, and can work in person at least 6 hours a week, plus some evenings and weekends for events.
Nice to Have
  • 2+ years of experience in development, events, program coordination, or a similar role
  • Alumni relations or community organizing experience
  • Social media experience, especially Instagram
  • Design experience in Canva
  • Experience with Bloomerang or another donor database
  • Experience at a nonprofit, school, or parent organization
  • Spanish fluency
  • A connection to San Diego or to public education
  • A connection to High Tech High, as a graduate, parent, or former staff member
