Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a Development Associate Events to support Houston Public Media’s donor engagement, stewardship, events, and communications within the Strategic Advancement team.

You will coordinate donor events, assist with annual giving activities, and help maintain relationships with alumni and donors, while ensuring a positive experience for supporters and partners.

Qualifications

  • A four-year degree from a college or university or equivalent directly related training.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate donor engagement events and smaller-scale programs including invitations, registration, RSVP tracking, guest communications, event materials and on-site support.
  • Support the Special Events Director in planning and executing larger events and donor receptions.
  • Develop donor-facing communications for events, such as invitations and confirmations.
  • Support donor stewardship and engagement communications, including newsletters and templates.
  • Maintain event records and tracking tools in databases and systems.

Job description

Department: Houston PublicMedia

Salary: $49,400.00 - $63,000.00

Description: Participates in the developmentand implementation of advancement programs (annual funds, majorgifts, alumni relations, special events, stewardship, publicrelations, etc.); plans and executes related activities andadministrative functions; provides technical knowledge andexperience in basic fundraising principles and advancementactivities.

1. Assists development leadership in developing and implementingalumni and donor engagement strategies, donor identification andcultivation, and major gift prospect research.

2. Directly coordinates with donors, faculty, and advancementstaff to facilitate acceptance of gifts in kind, gift transmittals,gift agreements, and naming opportunities.

3. Works with the Office of Annual Giving to develop annual fundsolicitations.

4. Develops and prepares acknowledgements, newsletters,brochures, press releases, reports, correspondence, andinformational and solicitation materials for various advancementactivities.

5. Supports the efforts of the development office to coordinateadvisory board meetings, fundraising events, and activities torecruit volunteers, build relations with alumni, and maintain goodwill with various constituent groups.

6. Provides guidance and supervision as needed to studentorganizations and other volunteer student organizations involved infund-raising and other advancement activities.

7. Executes various administrative functions such as preparingand monitoring budgets.

8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoreticaland practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professionaldiscipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professionaldiscipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtainedthrough a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a collegeor university or an equivalent in-depth specialized trainingprogram that is directly related to the type of work beingperformed.

Additional Posting Information:

The Development Associate Events supports Houston Public Media’sdonor engagement, stewardship, events, and communications effortsas a member of the Strategic Advancement team. This positionprovides coordination and administrative support for donor andcommunity engagement initiatives while helping ensure a consistentand positive experience for HPM supporters.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates assigned donor engagement events and smaller-scaleprograms, including invitations, registration and RSVP tracking,guest communications, event materials, vendor and internalcoordination, and onsite setup and support.
  • Supports the Special Events Director in the planning andexecution of larger signature events, donor receptions, communityengagement programs, and other Houston Public Media events.
  • Develops and coordinates donor-facing event communications,including invitations, registration pages, confirmations,reminders, event updates, and post-event follow-up.
  • Supports recurring donor stewardship and engagementcommunications, including digital communications, donor recognitioninitiatives, newsletters, templates, and other materials designedto strengthen relationships with HPM supporters.
  • Maintains event records and tracking tools, including guestlists, attendance, expenses, event documentation, and donorengagement activity in applicable databases and systems.
  • Assists with post-event reporting and evaluation by compilingattendance, expenses, engagement information, and other eventmetrics to help assess results and inform future planning.
  • Coordinates event-related materials and resources for boardmembers, committees, volunteers, and internal stakeholders,including event briefings, talking points, and “Know Before You Go”materials.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across Strategic Advancement and Houston Public Media to coordinate event logistics, communications,creative materials, donor recognition, and other engagementinitiatives.
  • Provides administrative and project support to the SpecialEvents Director and Chief Development Officer, including donor andevent updates in the department’s constituent relationshipmanagement system and other assignments that support StrategicAdvancement priorities.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlinessimultaneously. The position requires strong written and verbalcommunication skills, excellent customer service, sound judgment,and the ability to work collaboratively with donors, volunteers,vendors, and colleagues across the organization. Occasional eveningand weekend work is required in support of events.
