About Lighthouse

Lighthouse MI is a growing nonprofit, established in 2019 when Lighthouse of Oakland County and South Oakland Shelter joined forces to offer a stronger collective response to poverty in our Metro Detroit community. With over 80 years of combined experience, Lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope to our neighbors who need it most by offering assistance with emergency basic needs alongside housing programs and supportive services designed to support long-term economic stability. Lighthouse owns and operates Spero Housing Group, a subsidiary non-profit dedicated specifically to developing and operating high quality affordable and supportive housing for persons of low and moderate income, as well as HandUp, a community and crowdfunding platform serving 100+ homeless service agencies and their clients across the United States.

Position Summary

Lighthouse is seeking a highly-motivated and organized Development Associate to support a variety of key functions, including donor data entry, donor acknowledgment and stewardship efforts, special event support, and general development support. The Development Associate position is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week. This position will report directly to the Director of Individual and Planned Giving.

The Development Associate will support and gain exposure to a variety of development initiatives and strategies, including the annual fund, individual giving, special events, direct mail, a capital campaign, communications and stewardship. This position is key to our success and requires a highly organized, detail-oriented, collaborative and motivated person to contribute to our mission. This position requires a significant presence in the office that varies based on the development calendar; flexibile and remote work options possible based on the department's schedule.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Enter and update constituent data, including demographic, contact, and relationship information to support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts of the development department;
  • Run routine data queries in RE NXT or other systems as needed, and other data entry projects as assigned;
  • Prepare written and email donor acknowledgements; print and mail as needed;
  • Assist in outreach activities for the development team, including the scheduling meetings and managing calendars;
  • Code and submit invoices, answer and manage incoming phone calls and email inquiries for department and organization; and
  • Uphold agency values to maintain a safe, client-centered, and inclusive environment for clients, staff, interns, and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps
  • Ability to learn quickly; high attention to detail and accuracy in recording information
  • Positive and collaborative attitude in a fast-paced nonprofit environment
  • Flexibility and the capacity to prioritize tasks in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills
  • Clear and effective communication with team members and donors
  • Demonstrates reliability, responsiveness, and courtesy in all team and donor interactions
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors from a 4-year accredited college or university
  • Lived or professional experience working with people experiencing homelessness or extreme levels of poverty in the US
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a role directly or indirectly related to database support and/or data entry
  • CRM/Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge experience
  • Knowledge of the social services landscape in Oakland County and surrounding areas
  • Ability to self-regulate and work independently while coordinating with other staff
  • An appetite for innovation and creative problem-solving
  • Proven ability to work effectively with racially and ethnically diverse clients and teams
  • Unwavering personal integrity

Physical Demands
