Job description

A More Perfect Union is a nonpartisan organization that mobilizes the American Jewish community to protect and strengthen American democracy. We educate American Jews, equip Jewish institutions, and activate Jewish leaders to respond to the growing threat of authoritarianism and be engines for civic renewal in their communities. Rooted in the enduring American Jewish experience and powered by evidence-based strategies, we help communities meet this moment with clarity, courage, and collective action. Through research, messaging, training, and partnership, we're building a future where democracy works for all of us.

A More Perfect Union is fiscally sponsored by Goodnation Foundation and guided by our Strategic Advisors.

ABOUT THE POSITION

A More Perfect Union seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented Development Associate to help power our growing fundraising program. As the organization enters an exciting phase of expansion, this role will serve as the operational hub of the development team, ensuring that donor information is accurate, fundraising projects move forward on schedule, grants to our partners are processed, and that the organization has the infrastructure to track relevant data. Working closely with the Vice President of Development, Director of Operations, and colleagues across the organization, the Associate will maintain the systems, workflows, and cross-functional coordination that enable successful fundraising and internal functioning.

The ideal candidate is a project manager who thrives on organization, enjoys managing systems, communicates effectively across teams, and takes pride in ensuring that no detail falls through the cracks. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in nonprofit fundraising, operations, and organizational growth.

This is a full-time, remote position reporting to the Vice President, Development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain all Development operations and systems

  • Maintain the integrity of A More Perfect Union's fundraising data and systems, including Zoho CRM, the Master Prospect List, revenue tracker, and related development tools, ensuring data is current, consistent, and reliable across systems.
  • Create and maintain accurate donor, prospect, and grant records in a timely fashion
  • Monitor fundraising pipelines and surface stalled opportunities or upcoming deadlines to support proactive decision-making
  • Maintain the development calendar and help ensure the department stays on track against fundraising priorities and commitments

Coordinate grant proposals and funder reporting

  • Manage grant proposal and funder reporting processes from start to finish, including building and coordinating collaborative drafts and coordinating workflows across teams
  • Coordinate internal review processes, incorporate feedback, and ensure high-quality, timely submission of all fundraising materials
  • Maintain proposal and reporting schedules to ensure deadlines are met and organizational knowledge is documented

Support management of key donor relationships

  • Prepare donor briefing materials and background research in advance of meetings.
  • Coordinate logistics and post-event follow-through for parlor meetings, funder briefings, and other cultivation or stewardship events
  • Maintain accurate contact records and relationship history to support thoughtful donor engagement, stewardship, and coherent institutional knowledge.

Cross-functional collaboration and coordination

  • Collaborate closely with the Programs and Operations team to manage the disbursement of our signature Ignition Grants, managing grant payment processing and compliance documentation
  • Partner closely with the Communications team to develop fundraising collateral and donor-facing materials
  • Identify opportunities to improve fundraising systems, workflows, operational processes, and data quality as the organization grows
  • Provide additional operational and administrative support to the Development and Operations teams as needed.
ABOUT YOU

You're excited about the mission of A More Perfect Union. You believe deeply in the promise of American democracy, the role of faith-based leadership in supporting it, and the potential for the Jewish community to play a part in protecting and strengthening it. While you likely have strong political beliefs, you are committed to nonpartisanship, pluralism, and collaboration with diverse partners—even those with whom you may have significant policy disagreements—in defense of democracy. You are exceptionally organized and find satisfaction in stewarding systems that help people and organizations succeed. You are proactive, resourceful, and comfortable juggling competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and follow-through. You thrive in an environment where no two days are exactly the same. You're intensely curious, eager both to learn new things and to regularly question your own assumptions. You seek out and appreciate working with people whose experiences and expertise are different from—yet complementary to—your own, and you're excited to help build the operational foundation that enables A More Perfect Union to grow its impact.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES, AND SKILLS
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in development, nonprofit operations, project management, grants administration, fundraising, or other relevant professional experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information, coordinate across teams, and produce polished written materials
  • Exceptional project management skills, including strong attention to detail, organizational acumen, and the ability to simultaneously manage different kinds of projects
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, manage sensitive information with discretion, proactively solve problems, and take ownership of projects from start to finish.
  • Collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across all organizational functions and levels in a virtual work environment.
  • Deep sense of the importance of the work, coupled with humility, the ability to stay calm under pressure, and a great sense of humor.
  • Comfort learning and working within technology platforms, including CRMs (we use Zoho), project management tools (such as Asana), Google Workspace, Slack, and other productivity tools; experience with these platforms is a plus.
  • Experience supporting fundraising, donor stewardship, or nonprofit administration is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of and experience working within the American Jewish community is a plus.
  • Commitment to experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to A More Perfect Union's Core Values
CORE VALUES
  • ACTION-ORIENTED: We prioritize action, both because our work demands urgency and because the best learning comes from experimentation, hypothesis testing, and adaptation.
  • COLLABORATIVE: We know that none of us is as smart as all of us, so we are always looking for new people to learn from and dream and build with. And because we know that each of us only sees one part of the elephant, we seek to build a community rich with diverse identities, perspectives, and experiences.
  • TRUSTWORTHY: We know that organizations and networks move at the speed of trust. We work hard to earn and maintain the trust of our colleagues and our partners by prioritizing respect, empathy, reliability, and accountability.
  • CURIOUS: We are voracious learners, eager to deepen our understanding of the communities and fields in which we operate, and we approach complex problems with a healthy skepticism about simplistic answers.
  • RESOLUTE: We believe that - with commitment and hard work - things can get better, and we resist succumbing to cynicism, complacency, or armchair outrage.
  • JOYFUL: We believe that our team and our work are more effective when we infuse them with playfulness, celebration, and a sense of humor.
