This role supports the organization’s mission by managing and executing tasks related to membership and development, fundraising, community engagement, and communications.

Reporting to the Co-Executive Director of Engagement, the Associate works closely with the Engagement Team, Senior Leadership Team, and Board, as well as other programmatic staff and external partners, consultants, and volunteers, to ensure development and communications initiatives align with organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Development Operations

  • Own the execution of appeals and fundraising campaigns, from donor segmentation and scheduling through follow-up
  • Process donor acknowledgments and support stewardship efforts to build long-term donor relationships
  • Maintain and update the donor database (Neon One) to support appeals, outreach, and fundraising campaigns
  • Support membership growth by identifying opportunities to attract new members and deepen engagement with existing ones
  • Serve as a friendly point of contact for donors, participants, and community partners
  • Help plan and execute events, including the State of the Midcoast Annual Meeting and the Wellspring Celebration
  • Assist in preparing fundraising reports and materials for Board meetings
  • Stay current on fundraising trends and best practices to help strengthen engagement strategies

Communications

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a communications and marketing plan
  • Lead a website audit to position Midcoast Conservancy for its next phase of growth, refreshing presence and storytelling approach
  • Maintain the website and support social media strategy
  • Create engaging text, image, and video content for use across platforms
  • Collaborate with staff to produce and publish brand-aligned content (like the Drift and Annual Report) that engages key stakeholder groups
  • Help build templates, systems, and internal training resources so staff can apply brand guidelines consistently
  • Travel periodically between locations to capture multimedia content and help keep print materials current and available
Qualifications

Required:

  • Past experience with fundraising and database management
  • Strong writing skills across different formats and platforms
  • Familiarity with digital marketing and social media best practices
  • Excellent project management, time management, and personal management skills
  • Flexibility, creativity, and willingness to work in a changing and growing environment
  • Experience with tools such as Google Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Squarespace (or a comparable website builder), and a CRM
  • Organized, with strong attention to detail
  • Experience designing and executing fundraising campaigns that meet defined objectives
  • Experience pitching or placing news or feature stories with local, regional, or national media outlets
  • Proactive and strategic in approach to planning and problem-solving
  • Flexible and able to adapt as organizational needs shift
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable working across departments and with stakeholders at all levels
  • Comfortable with a range of communications technology
  • A creative problem-solver with a passion for inclusive, community-driven storytelling
  • Professional demeanor, as this role serves as a public representative of the organization
Education and Experience
  • A 2- or 4-year degree in a related field, plus 2 - 4 years of experience in a dynamic nonprofit role; or
  • Relevant work samples may be considered in lieu of the above for entry-level candidates; or
  • In lieu of formal education, 5 years of experience in major donor outreach and strategy is preferred.
Schedule

This is a 32-hour-per-week salaried position, Monday–Friday, with the potential to grow into a full-time (40-hour) role over the next 12 months based on organizational needs and performance.
