Job summary

Abode Communities is seeking a detail-driven Development Accountant to own the accounting for affordable housing projects from acquisition through construction. You will coordinate with project managers, lenders, contractors, and vendors to keep funding on track and audit-ready.

You will prepare cost certifications, reconcile construction-in-progress with GL, and support external auditors. A Bachelor's in accounting and real estate/construction experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with at least two years of experience.
  • Real estate or construction accounting experience is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency with MRI, AvidXchange, Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, submit, and track funding draws to multiple lenders across acquisition, predevelopment, and construction phases.
  • Assist in preparing cost certifications with Development team and external auditors.
  • Reconcile construction-in-progress and related general ledger accounts.
  • Review cash disbursements and process deposits accurately and on time.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger, balance sheet, and income/expense schedules.
  • Reconcile monthly A/R, A/P, cash, and inter-entity advances; reconcile loan draws and job cost reports.
  • Prepare audit schedules and support external auditors in delivering on-time annual audit reports.
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned by Development Accounting leadership.
