Job summary

Abode Communities in California is seeking a Senior Asset Manager to oversee a portion of its affordable housing portfolio, ensuring strong financial and physical performance and regulatory compliance.

You will participate in development reviews for new properties, scrutinize operating budgets, and act as the main point of contact for investors, lenders, and regulatory agencies. This role reports to the Associate Director and CFO and supports portfolio-wide performance improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years in multifamily property management or similar experience.
  • Experience with HUD, LIHTC, Section 8 and related programs.
  • Ability to review and negotiate LPAs and regulatory agreements.
  • Proficient in auditing, investor and lender reporting.
  • Proficient in reading tax returns.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee administration of a portfolio, ensuring financial and physical well‑being.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and timely reporting.
  • Assist development reviews for new properties including operating budgets.
  • Serve as principal contact for investors, lenders, and regulators.
  • Support portfolio‑wide performance improvements and system enhancements.

More than an affordable housing provider, our work fosters a culture of housing inclusion by integrating families and individuals with neighborhoods so communities at-large can thrivePosition SummaryThe Senior Asset Manager will oversee the administration of a portion of the organization’s portfolio and ensure that they maintain strong physical and financial well-being, comply with legal and regulatory requirements as well as fulfill all internal and external reporting requirements in an accurate and timely manner. The Senior Asset Manager will participate during the development process for new properties, to include the review of selected materials including proposed operating budgets. This position will also serve as a key contact for investors, lenders and regulatory agencies. The Senior Asset Manager will also work under the direction of the Associate Director and CFO to improve property performance and systems across the portfolio.Equivalent Education, Experiences, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related field highly preferred.5+ years of relevant experience in multifamily residential property management. Specific knowledge of affordable programs, Tax Credit, HUD, LAHD, HCD, and CDLAC.Knowledge of public and private housing finance programs, including but not limited to, HUD, HOME, and Section 8 programs, LIHTC, and tax-exempt bonds.Ability to review and negotiate LPAs, loan agreements, regulatory agreements, and settlements.Proficiency in reading and responding to property audit, investor, and lender reporting.Proficiency in reading tax returns.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Commitment to excellent customer service; ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion in decision-making and communications.Understanding of the complex social and housing needs and issues of lower-income individuals, families, and seniors.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with demonstrated ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.Excellent analytical and organizational skills as well as understanding pf accounting principles.Ability to complete multiple tasks under fixed time constraints and deadlines.AI experience a plus.Ability to travel within the company’s portfolio.Compensation and BenefitsOffers are commensurate with the education and experience of the finalist.
