Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) in San Francisco seeks an engineer to join the Applied Software Group, owning internal tools and the developer platform to speed up projects firm-wide. You'll collaborate with fellow engineers and diverse teams to reduce friction and improve productivity.

You will build, maintain, and document tooling, ensure observability, and support production workflows while growing autonomy and impact.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python 3, Rust or similar backend languages.
• Track record of defining and shipping developer platforms or internal tooling.
• Experience deploying services on one major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes; CI/CD and IaC experience a plus.
• Production SQL databases experience; NoSQL experience a plus.
• Ability to work with diverse user groups and prioritize engineering velocity.

Responsibilities

• Own, improve, and help adopt internal developer platform for the firm's teams.
• Build and maintain tooling and libraries to accelerate development across products.
• Support observability, monitoring, and self-serve production workflows.
• Collaborate with Cybersecurity to meet security and compliance requirements.
• Write clear developer documentation, onboarding guides, and runbooks.
• Take ownership of projects from development through production support.
