Job summary

OpenTalent is seeking an experienced harness assembler to read wiring diagrams and build aerospace-grade harnesses per IPC/WHMA-A-620. You will use crimping, soldering, lacing, shielding and connectors, and you will document results and maintain build records.

The role requires 2+ years in high-reliability harness work, proficiency with inspection and testing equipment, and strict adherence to ESD/FOD and cleanroom protocols.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years hands-on experience building, maintaining, or repairing aerospace/high-reliability wire harnesses.
  • Proficiency with crimping tools and soldering equipment.
  • Experience with hipot testers and milliohm meters.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and engineering drawings with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and work in tight spaces; ESD-safe handling.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering drawings to assemble harnesses accurately.
  • Fabricate harnesses using crimping, soldering, lacing, shielding, and connector assembly techniques per IPC/WHMA-A-620 and aerospace standards.
  • Perform electrical testing, including continuity, insulation resistance, and hipot testing, and accurately document results.
  • Inspect harnesses for workmanship quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain build records, travelers, and inspection logs in accordance with company and industry requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of industry and internal standards to identify missing or ambiguous information and provide recommendations.
  • Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to resolve nonconformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Follow ESD, FOD, and cleanroom protocols as required.
  • Operate and maintain harness fabrication tools, test equipment, and measuring devices.
  • Support lab organization, tool tracking, material staging, and cleanliness efforts (6S).
  • Escalate work blockers and develop workarounds under ambiguous situations.
  • Engage in continuous learning and support new procedure development with Lab Engineers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience building, maintaining, or repairing aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability wire harnesses — including experience gained through aircraft maintenance or military aviation technician roles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with crimping tools, soldering equipment, heat-shrink applications, and harness lacing/taping, gained through fabrication, rework, or field repair of wire harnesses.
  • Experience with hipot testers, milliohm meters, and other harness test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering drawings, and execute assigned build tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to lift 40–50 lbs unassisted, stand for extended periods, work in tight spaces, and safely handle ESD-sensitive components.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience in satellite, spacecraft, or other aerospace harness assembly.
  • Experience providing process feedback to engineering on harness design, tooling, or fixturing.
  • Knowledge of ESD and FOD prevention best practices in a cleanroom or controlled environment.
  • Comfort working from ambiguous or evolving procedures in a fast-paced development setting.
