Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a mid-career R&D Engineer at the R&D Engineer 2 or 3 level for the Detonation Science and Technology Group (Q-6). The role focuses on timing and firing control systems, high-voltage and laser operations, and end-to-end project delivery in support of critical national security experiments.

The position requires strong problem-solving, collaboration, and hands-on design experience with pulse power, high-voltage hardware, and embedded control systems.

Qualifications

• Pulse power engineering experience including hardware, software, interfaces, PWB layouts, schematic development
• Design and development of capacitive discharge units with testing and documentation
• Experimental facility integrations, safety analysis, and deployment of hardware for high-explosives
• Troubleshoot complex systems using HV test equipment, diagnostics, and data-driven methods
• Document engineering work with test results, user guides, version control, and integration guides

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, technologists, and technicians on timing and firing control systems
• Design and deliver high-value projects end-to-end and support development of tools and systems
• Support development and deployment of test infrastructure for high-explosive environments
