Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions is seeking a Detention Officer to oversee detainees and enforce facility rules. The role covers multiple posts, requires monitoring living areas, movements, counts, and emergency responses to incidents.

You will contribute to security in programs, supervise crews, and prepare logs and reports. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with college coursework in security or behavioral sciences preferred and diversity training a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• College coursework in behavioral sciences, security services, or related field preferred.
• Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity is preferred.
• State employment requisites must be possessed.
• Ability to work overtime as required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and monitor detainees in living, recreation, dining, and visitation areas.
• Coordinate detainee movements, conduct counts, provide emergency response.
• Work across posts including control room, health services, perimeter security, and transportation.
• Provide security in program activities and supervise labor crews.
• Conduct shakedowns for contraband; confiscate per policies.
• Prepare reports and maintain daily logs; respond to detainee injuries.
