Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3 years’ experience handling prisoners as a Law Enforcement Officer, Corrections, Detention, or Military Police.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must possess a State Firearms License.
• Must possess a personal sidearm meeting company standards and an approved Level III retention holster.
• Must possess a State Security Guard License.
• Must have completed an approved training program resulting in a certification of satisfactory completion in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Ability to work overtime frequently.
• Ability to travel extended periods with frequent overnight stays.
• Ability to handle physical and mental stress of long hours.
• Must be able to report to work without lateness.
• Ability to be physically alert on any assigned shift.
• Ability to work up to sixteen hours within a rolling 24-hour period.
• Must be mature, flexible and capable of commanding respect of inmates and staff.
• Ability to work with computers and department software.

Responsibilities

• The Hospital Officer maintains custody and control of detainees in the hospital at all times.
• Follows restraint protocols outlined in Medical Guarding Procedures.
• Ensures restraints do not interfere with medical procedures or harm the detainee.
• Ensures positioning is within eyesight of the detainee.
• Prevents detainees from receiving outside visitors unless contract or court order requires.
• Prevents detainees from making telephone calls unless contract requires.
• Completes paperwork and reports accurately and timely to Transportation Supervisor.
• Keeps a duty log detailing shift events and reports unusual events promptly.
• Ensures detainees are properly secured before leaving the hospital.
• Follows all safety measures and applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
