Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Detention Deputy to perform a variety of custody and inmate supervision duties. Responsibilities include head counts, classifications, and safety oversight within the facility, with potential assignments across Transport, Utility, Food Service and Bailiff areas.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and a current TCOLE Peace Officer Certification (or enrollment in Texas academy). Strong communication skills and a valid Texas driver’s license are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Possess or be enrolled in TCOLE Peace Officer Certification.
• Must obtain Basic Jailer Certification within the first year of employment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License is required.
• Ability to work rotating shifts.

Responsibilities

• Conduct head counts and door checks regularly.
• Classify inmates, fingerprint, and complete required paperwork.
• Maintain custody and provide a safe environment.
• Supervise feeding, hygiene and recreational activities.
• Serves as interpreter for non-English speaking inmates, if bilingual.
• Prepare reports on activities, incidents and other functions.
