Job summary

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office in Largo, FL is seeking a Classification Specialist for the Custody Management Division. You will evaluate inmates and determine housing and custody levels based on charges, behavior, and risk factors through interviews and records reviews.

The role requires independent judgment, strong communication with diverse populations, and the ability to balance safety, security, and inmate well-being. Shift work is required, with day, evening, and overnight options.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited college or university.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Interview inmates within 72 hours of admission and at least once 30 days thereafter.
• Provide reassessments and reclassifications as needed.
• Exercise judgement in custody level and housing assignments.
• Monitor inmate behavior during the classification process.
• Prepare housing and availability reports.
• Maintain and update inmate classification records.
• Coordinate inmate movement with affected staff.
• Provide information and testimony in court when required.
• Attend to essential function and safety requirements.
