Job summary

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Corrections Deputy to help maintain security, custody and control of inmates within the jail complex. The role involves operating electronically controlled doors, conducting counts of inmate workers and monitoring movement to ensure safety and order.

The position requires responding to emergencies, handling inquiries from the public and inmates, and supervising inmate workers.

Qualifications

• Background investigation (including polygraph) and pre-employment checks required.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Maintains security within the Jail Complex at all times.
• Operates electronically operated security doors to assure authorized movement of persons throughout the jail facility.
• Conducts counts of inmate workers and reports to designated person/station.
• Monitors and controls all movement within the unit to maintain security and safety.
• Maintains security and accountability for keys issued or received; updates key logs.
• Monitors radio transmissions and responds to communications in a timely manner.
• Responds to emergencies as directed and to inquiries from the public and inmates.
• Supervises inmate workers and monitors for difficulties; notifies security if necessary.
• Monitors inmates working through CCTV.

Education
