Job summary

Mirion Technologies in Meriden, CT, seeks a Manufacturing Detector Engineer to lead development and continuous improvement of Germanium detector manufacturing steps. You will troubleshoot equipment, lead pre-production, and implement automation and instrumentation upgrades where feasible.

The role requires knowledge of vacuum/cryogenic systems, surface chemistry, and semiconductor processes, with 3–5 years of related experience and a BS in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or equivalent.

Job description

Mirion Technologies is seeking to hire a Manufacturing Detector Engineer to provide development and technical support including continuous improvement of all manufacturing steps and processes in the production of Germanium detector products at the Meriden facility. The role will include providing technical lead in the industrialization phase of a new product development. As part of the roles, the candidate will provide support for troubleshooting manufacturing equipment when they break down and learn to implement solutions to their common operational failures. Optimize the existing processes and consider implementing automation approach with instrumentation and hardware upgrade where possible. It is preferred that the candidate has experience with vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, surface chemistry, and other semiconductor manufacturing processes/systems. Aptitude to quickly learn and understand the operation of equipment in the production of Germanium detector products will be a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Designs, develops, and optimizes manufacturing processes for Germanium detectors and hardware.
  • Facilitates the design and develop manufacturing fixtures and aids for the three arms of Germanium detectors production - Fabrication, Assembly, and Test.
  • Regular interaction with Engineering and Production groups to solve day-to-day manufacturing problems related to Germanium detector manufacture.
  • Regular interaction with the Production Supervisors to assist in the regular maintenance of production equipment, big and small, including those that require calibration.
  • Analyze and review all current processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs and minimize waste.
  • Upgrade hardware and software of all existing processes to implement automation approach where possible.
  • Assist in troubleshooting production system failures and perform root cause analysis and implement solutions.
  • Create and revise work instructions, test instructions, detailed reports, and other documentation as required.
  • Install, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair manufacturing equipment.
  • Design and implement quality control processes to verify that products meet specifications.
  • Analyze production data for insights into production efficiency and future needs.
  • Educate and train production technicians on newly implemented or existing manufacturing processes.

  • Lead the pre-production phase and all associated activities of a new product release to full production.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Promote and support the development of a safe, ergonomic, and environmentally sound workplace.
  • Create and review engineering drawings for manufacturability including tolerance stack analysis.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standard manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with system automation .
  • Experience with programming and scripting languages (e.g. C++, VB, Python).
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must be able to develop and execute work plans.
  • Working knowledge in general chemistry.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience with Monte Carlo and/or Finite Element Modeling techniques .
  • Experience with analog and digital electronics.
  • Knowledge of semi-conductor / p-n junction theory.
  • Ion implantation experience.
  • Radiation measurement experience.
  • Germanium Gamma-Ray/X-Ray Device fabrication experience.
  • Mechanical ability.
  • Good working knowledge of the physical sciences and engineering method.
EXPEREINCE REQUIRED:
  • 3 -5 years prior experience.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS. in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
