Job summary

Southland Industries is looking for an experienced Detailer to support construction projects by creating and coordinating shop drawings, BIM modeling, and MEP systems. You will collaborate with project teams, lead less experienced detailers, and help drive on-time deliverables.

Role involves leading 3D modeling, coordinating trades, and assisting with budget accountability. Strong communication and CAD/BIM software skills are essential for project success.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED with 4 years related experience or trade apprenticeship with 2 years field experience.
  • Field Foreman/General Foreman preferred
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write, edit and proofread content.
  • Solid understanding of craft
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents
  • Current knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to coordinate projects
  • Ability to train less experienced Detailers
  • Working knowledge of AEC, BIM, CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD)

Responsibilities

  • Creates advanced shop drawings for mechanical systems in major construction projects.
  • Provides MEP coordination.
  • Maintains documentation protocols for retrieval and understanding by others.
  • Leads final trade coordination and sign-off with General Contractor (when applicable).
  • Assists with design pull schedule to direct model development to meet deliverables.
  • Assists with budget and cost accountability.
  • May lead the final trade coordination and sign-off process with the General Contractor.
  • Delivers advanced 3D modeling using BIM.
  • Participates in meetings with project team to ensure successful product.

Position Summary

Supports construction projects through the creation, coordination, and management of shop drawings, BIM modeling, and MEP systems. Collaborates across teams, contributes to project efficiency and accuracy.

Position Details
  • Provides advanced support on construction projects including receiving, logging, tracking, expediting and distribution of shop drawings, RFI's and other construction project documentation.
  • Creates advanced shop drawings for mechanical systems in major construction projects.
  • Creates equipment, room layout and detail drawings.
  • Maintains a protocol of documents in such a way that information can be retrieved and understood by others.
  • Achieves reduced time/costs related to potential errors of clash detection.
  • Provides MEP coordination.
  • Provides advanced 3D modeling using BIM.
  • Participates in construction and other meetings as required, collaborates with project team to ensure a successful product.
  • Serves as lead to less experienced team members and delegates work as needed.
  • Assists with design pull schedule to direct the model development to meet deliverables.
  • Assists with budget and cost accountability.
  • May lead the final trade coordination and sign-off process in conjunction with the General Contractor.
