Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an entry-level Detailing Assistant to support shop drawings, BIM modeling, and MEP coordination on construction projects in Houston. You will join a collaborative team and help ensure accuracy and timeliness of project documentation.

Responsibilities include logging and distributing drawings, creating basic shop drawings, and attending meetings with design and build teams to minimize design-related errors.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED and 0-2 years of detailing experience.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage shop drawings and BIM models.
  • Provide basic support and distribution of project documentation.
  • Coordinate MEP systems and clash detection improvements.
  • Attend meetings and support cross-team collaboration.

  • Creates basic shop drawings.
  • Maintains a protocol of documents in such a way that information can be retrieved and understood by others.
  • Achieves reduced time/costs related to potential errors of clash detection.
  • Provides MEP coordination.
  • Provides basic 3D modeling using BIM.
  • Attends and participates in construction and other meetings as required.

  • Ability to write, edit and proofread content.
  • Basic understanding of craft
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents
  • Current knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods
  • Attention to detail
  • Basic knowledge of applicable AEC, BIM, CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD)
