Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an entry-level BIM Detailer to support shop drawing creation, basic 3D BIM modeling, and MEP coordination on ongoing projects. You will log and distribute project documents, attend meetings, and help ensure alignment between design and field installation.

The role emphasizes collaboration across teams to reduce errors, improve document control, and support efficient project execution.

Qualifications

• High School or GED and 0–2 years detailing experience or currently enrolled in trade apprenticeship program.
• Basic verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents; familiarity with HVAC, piping and sheet metal trades.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic support on construction projects including receiving, logging, tracking, expediting and distribution of shop drawings and other documentation.
• Creates basic shop drawings.
• Maintains a protocol of documents for easy retrieval and understanding by others.
• Helps reduce time/costs related to potential errors in clash detection.
• Provides MEP coordination.
• Provides basic 3D modeling using BIM.
• Attends construction and other meetings as required.
• Collaborates with design and build teams to eliminate design-related construction errors.

Job description

• Creates basic shop drawings.
• Maintains a protocol of documents in such a way that information can be retrieved and understood by others.
• Achieves reduced time/costs related to potential errors of clash detection.
• Provides MEP coordination.
• Provides basic 3D modeling using BIM.
• Attends and participates in construction and other meetings as required.
• Collaborates with design and build team to eliminate construction errors due to design flaws.

Qualifications

• High School or GED and 0-2 years of detailing experience or currently enrolled in trade apprenticeship program
• Basic verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to write, edit and proofread content.
• Basic understanding of craft
• Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents
• Current knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods
• Basic knowledge of applicable AEC, BIM, CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD)
