Job summary

• Ability to recognize structural steel members, material properties and finishing requirements.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, databases and email; ability to maintain electronic job records.
• Strong attention to detail, organization and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across engineering and shop teams.

Responsibilities

• Review job folders for required documents and verify assembly lists, item callouts and shop drawings against customer specifications.
• Read and interpret fabrication, manufacturing and isometric drawings to identify details for production.
• Prepare AutoCAD layouts and auxiliary shop sheets from customer drawings when needed for clarity.
• Collaborate with engineers to add or clarify manufacturing information, including cutting patterns and buyout details.
• Review job revisions with the Project Manager and takeoff engineer; identify changes affecting detailing or manufacturing.
• Document and communicate missing information and discrepancies; follow through to resolution.
• Update job status in the database as work progresses through engineering to shop release.

Founded in 1978 and based in Houston, TX, PT&P manufactures engineered pipe supports and other piping system products for power, refining, chemical and related industries.

Position Summary

The Detailer prepares and reviews the information needed to release engineering jobs to manufacturing. This role checks job folders, assembly lists and drawings against customer requirements, resolves discrepancies with engineering and project teams, and creates supporting AutoCAD details when needed. The Detailer helps ensure that shop personnel have accurate, clear instructions for fabrication, inspection and shipment.

What You Will Do

• Review job folders for required documents and verify assembly lists, item callouts and shop drawings against customer specifications, applicable standards and job requirements.
• Read and interpret fabrication, manufacturing and isometric drawings to identify the details needed for production.
• Prepare AutoCAD layouts and auxiliary shop sheets from customer drawings when additional clarity is needed for specific items.
• In consultation with the assigned engineer, add or clarify manufacturing information, including auxiliary sheets, buyout details and cutting patterns, while following approved drawings and specifications.
• Review job revisions with the Project Manager, Project Engineer and Takeoff Engineer; identify changes that could affect detailing or manufacturing.
• Document and communicate missing information, drawing conflicts and other job discrepancies; follow through with the appropriate teams until they are resolved.
• Update job status in the FileMaker database as work moves through engineering, detailing and release to the shop; maintain current discrepancy records.
• Upload detailed job files and drawings with discrepancies to the designated SharePoint job folder for reference and traceability.
• Coordinate with fabrication, quality control and shipping teams on job requirements, production questions and changes in shop processes or equipment that affect detailing.
• Communicate detailing issues and concerns to the Project Manager, engineers, shop operations and shipping management as appropriate.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings and applicable Job Quote training; follow company safety policies and perform other related duties as assigned.

• Familiarity with AutoCAD and the ability to read and interpret technical and shop drawings.
• Familiarity with general fabrication shop practices and the ability to learn company products, manufacturing and quality standards, material specifications, and job workflows.
• Ability to recognize common structural steel members, material properties and finish or coating requirements relevant to assigned jobs.
• Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, databases and email; ability to maintain accurate electronic job records.
• Strong attention to detail, organization and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across engineering and shop teams.
