Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is seeking an Accounting Assistant to support accounts payable, general ledger reconciliations, and treasury tasks in a hybrid Arlington, VA environment. The candidate will handle invoices, coding, vendor coordination, and basic journal entries in a fast-paced nonprofit setting.

Ideal candidates bring GAAP knowledge, proficiency with accounting software (MIP, Avid, Concur), and strong communication and organizational skills to support audits and month-end

Qualifications

• Proven experience in accounts payable or a general accounting support role.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and basic general ledger accounting principles.
• Familiarity with accounting software such as MIP, Avid, Concur, or similar and Microsoft Office/Excel.
• Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Process and manage incoming invoices, ensuring accurate coding and timely payment.
• Reconcile accounts payable transactions and maintain accurate records.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal departments to resolve discrepancies or payment issues.
• Assist in preparing payment runs and ensure payments are made on schedule.
• Oversee vendor request forms, approval workflows, and supporting documentation.
