Job summary

The University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is hiring a Desktop Support Specialist to join a diverse team of desktop support professionals. This role supports faculty, staff, and students, resolving incidents, performing software refreshes, building computers, and assisting with research software across multiple disciplines.

Ideal candidates have an associate or intermediate level background, strong customer service skills, and the ability to manage many tickets

Qualifications

• Associate degree in related field and/or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
• Two or more years of technical support experience, including customer service and detailed documentation.
• Two or more years of desktop support experience across macOS/Linux/Windows.
• Proficient with Google Apps, word processing, and spreadsheets for collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate quality service and accountability while resolving incidents and meeting customer needs.
• Establish customer and team relationships using effective communication and collaboration.
• Update tickets promptly; prioritize work and ensure timely closure.
• Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain systems, software, and devices.
• Track computer systems and device inventory for asset management.
• Plan and implement system maintenance, including software patches and upgrades.
• Monitor system availability, errors, and performance.
• Participate in cross-organizational projects to keep the environment current and secure.
• Share knowledge and assist less technical staff.
