Job summary

Ballinger, based in Philadelphia, seeks an entry‑level Interior Designer to join our team. The role emphasizes design thinking, space planning, and documentation for health care, academic, and corporate projects.

You will develop skills in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and visualization tools while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and participating in site visits as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Interior Design or Architecture.
  • Entry level to 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Portfolio demonstrating design thinking and visual communication.
  • NCIDQ eligibility, LEED Green Associate, WELL AP, or other credentials welcomed but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research related to materials, finishes, furnishings, lighting, products, precedents, sustainability, wellness, accessibility, and applicable codes.
  • Produce 3D renderings.
  • Pick up redlines in a documentation set.
  • Assist with furniture, furnishings and equipment selection, documentation, budgeting support, and coordination.
  • Interface and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Develop knowledge of Ballinger’s project types (health care, academic/lab/research, corporate/workspace).
  • Travel as project requirements dictate for surveys and field/site visits during construction.
  • Assist with maintenance of firm standards.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop knowledge of Ballinger’s project types (health care, academic/lab/research, corporate/workspace) through on-the-job experience, repetition, and scalability of tasks and responsibilities
  • Travel as project requirements dictate for surveys and field/site visits during construction
  • Assist with maintenance of firm standards
Technical/Professional Skills
  • Demonstrate foundation in interior design principles, including space planning, color, materials, furnishings, lighting, detailing, and visual communication
  • Interpersonal skills combined with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Graphics and visualization skills to effectively communicate design ideas
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction within a larger team
  • Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, or other modeling software applications
  • Interest in sustainable design, wellness, furniture, material performance, inclusive design, and the user experience
Requirements

Location

This role is based in our Philadelphia, PA headquarters at 1650 Arch Street with three (3) days per week in office and a flexible, hybrid work schedule. Occasional travel, less than ten percent, to client sites (<10%) may be required
