Job summary

Ballinger seeks an entry to mid-level interior designer to contribute to complex projects across health care, academic, corporate, and research sectors. You will research materials, assist with documentation, and develop visualization skills in a collaborative, mentorship‑driven environment.

You will produce 3D renderings, support furniture and equipment selection, and coordinate with other disciplines while growing your knowledge of Ballinger’s project types through hands-on experience and

Responsibilities

• Conduct research related to materials, finishes, furnishings, lighting, products, precedents, sustainability, wellness, accessibility, and applicable codes
• Produce 3D renderings
• Pick up redlines in a documentation set
• Assist with furniture, furnishings and equipment selection, documentation, budgeting support, and coordination
• Interface and coordinate with other disciplines
• Develop knowledge of Ballinger’s project types through on-the-job experience
• Travel as project requirements dictate for surveys and site visits during construction
• Assist with maintenance of firm standards

Position Responsibilities

• Conduct research related to materials, finishes, furnishings, lighting, products, precedents, sustainability, wellness, accessibility, and applicable codes
• Produce 3D renderings

• Assist with furniture, furnishings and equipment selection, documentation, budgeting support, and coordination
• Interface and coordinate with other disciplines
• Develop knowledge of Ballinger’s project types (health care, academic/lab/research, corporate/workspace) through on-the-job experience, repetition, and scalability of tasks and responsibilities
• Travel as project requirements dictate for surveys and field/site visits during construction
• Assist with maintenance of firm standards

Technical/Professional Skills

• Demonstrate foundation in interior design principles, including space planning, color, materials, furnishings, lighting, detailing, and visual communication
• Interpersonal skills combined with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications
• Graphics and visualization skills to effectively communicate design ideas
• Attention to detail
• Ability to take direction within a larger team
• Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, or other modeling software applications

• Interest in sustainable design, wellness, furniture, material performance, inclusive design, and the user experience

Requirements

• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Interior Design or Architecture
• Entry level to 3 years of relevant work experience
• Portfolio demonstrating design thinking, visual communication, and relevant academic or professional work.
• NCIDQ eligibility, LEED Green Associate, WELL AP, or other relevant credentials are welcomed but not required.

Location

This role is based in our Philadelphia, PA headquarters at 1650 Arch Street with three (3) days per week in office and a flexible, hybrid work schedule. Occasional travel, less than ten percent, to client sites (<10%) may be required
