Job summary

United Legwear & Apparel Co. in New York City is seeking a Designer for Hurley on a 1099 contract. This role focuses on developing and executing innovative, trend-right Hurley Men's activewear from concept through production.

You will collaborate with Sales, Production, and Technical Design to ensure product integrity, viability, and seasonal alignment. 5 or more years of design experience preferred for this fast-paced role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and 2–5 years in design, incl. menswear.
• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; strong color and pattern sense.
• Able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and meet deadlines.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities; detail-oriented.
• Knowledge of garment construction and trend research.

Responsibilities

• Design, sketch, and develop ideas for Hurley Men's activewear collections.
• Research and interpret emerging fashion trends.
• Update CADs and recolor seasonal designs; keep product line current.
• Produce detailed tech packs and guide development from concept to pre-production.
• Input Tech Packs and SMS comments into PLM.
• Coordinate with factories on tech packs and approvals.
• Review lab dips and strike offs.
• Maintain relations with sales, buying, and production teams.
• Discuss design ideas with sales and adapt to market needs.
• Perform other duties as needed.

About The Job:

At ULAC, the Designeris responsible for supporting the development and execution of innovative, trend-right products that align with the brand's vision and strategic goals. Working closely with the Hurley Design team, this role contributes to the design, creation, and delivery of Hurley Men's activewear from concept through production. The Designer will collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Production, and Technical Design teams to ensure product integrity, commercial viability, and alignment with seasonal objectives.

What You Will Do:

• Responsible for designing, sketching and developing ideas for collections in Hurley Men's activewear.
• Research and identify emerging fashion trends and interpret those trends.
• Generate, updated and recolor seasonal CADs for designated brand/product area. MakePeriodic updates to product line.
• Produce detailed tech packs and follow through the entire development of product from initial line to final pre-production samples.
• In-put Tech Packs & SMS comments into PLM system.
• Daily follow up with factories on tech pack creation/revision/review and submit approvals.
• Review and approve labdips and strike off submits.
• Develop and maintain relations with sales, buying and production teams to ensure item suits customer, market and price points.
• Interact with sales team to discuss design ideas.
• Perform any other duties as assigned in support of the company needs and operations.

What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, extensive knowledge of garment construction and 2-5 years of experience in Design, including but not limited to experience with menswear.
• Sportswear/performance wear experience preferred.
• Knowledge of fashion trends and general trends in color, fabric and style.
• High creativity and artistic abilities, an eye for color, texture and pattern with keen attention to detail and ability to visualize in three dimensions.
• Proficient computer skills to include Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator & Photoshop), Microsoft Office, and Acrobat
• Excellent written and verbal skills as required for effective interpersonal communication
• Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and workload seamlessly and follow-up.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team under critical time frames.
• Self driven and experience working in a fast‑paced environment and ability to apply good work habits to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the company/department.
