W. W. Norton is seeking a versatile Designer with fluency in digital products and traditional print products to join its Digital Publishing, Production, and Design group. This group produces ebooks, print books, and media for Norton’s educational publishing departments.
The Designer role is responsible for a wide range of texbook project designs across both digital and print formats, including ebook and interactive content, print layouts, figure art, and video graphics. Designers collaborate closely with various teams, including editorial, digital production, and print production, to create clear, engaging, and accessible learning materials for students and instructors.
Candidates should bring strong visual design skills, a solid understanding of accessible digital user experience principles, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven publishing environment.
This position reports to the Creative Director of College Design.

Experience and Skills
Required Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of professional design experience, preferably in educational publishing, digital learning, UX design, or related fields.
- Bachelor of Arts or equivalent experience.
- Online portfolio demonstrating experience with user-centered design, digital products, print design, layout systems, and information hierarchy.
- Experience designing for ebooks, websites, learning platforms, or other digital reading and instructional experiences.
- Working knowledge of UX principles, accessibility best practices and standards such as WCAG, responsive design, and interaction patterns for educational content.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and familiarity with design, prototyping, or collaboration tools such as Figma or similar platforms.
- Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
- Must be able to work full business hours.
- Ability to interpret editorial goals and translate complex content into clear, engaging, and usable visual designs.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $60-65K. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and considerations.
