Alfred Williams & Company in Charlotte, NC seeks a Designer to join our furniture planning team at the Showroom. This full-time role focuses on space planning, design development, and client proposals in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in commercial furniture design, proficiency in CET Designer and AutoCAD, and strong communication. Knowledge of MillerKnoll products is preferred; on-site work required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a four-year program or equivalent; preferred degree in interior design (bachelor's/associate).
  • Minimum five-year practical experience in commercial furniture design and planning.
  • Proficiency in CET Designer is required.
  • MillerKnoll product knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.

Responsibilities

  • Create furniture layouts and space plans in AutoCAD using CAP and CET.
  • Prepare client proposals with pricing and discounts for commercial furniture.
  • Develop color and material presentations (electronic and physical).
  • Coordinate with vendors for pricing and discounts.
  • Organize project files per design/company standards.
  • Field verify and measure site conditions.
  • Space planning and systems furniture layout.
  • Inventory existing product (stored or on-site) and record data.
  • Create installation drawings.
  • Understand building codes, ADA, and electrical/data needs.
  • Check drawings and specs for accuracy.
  • Assist defining project scope and client requirements.
  • Participate in client interactions and programming sessions.

Responsibilities and Technical Skills
  • Skilled and efficient input of furniture layouts and space plans into AutoCAD via CAP and CET
  • Experience with pricing and discounting commercial furniture to produce client proposals
  • Development of color and material presentations, both electronic and physical
  • Communicate with vendors to determine pricing, discounts, etc.
  • Set up and maintain project files per design and company standards
  • Field verification and measurement of site conditions
  • Experience in space planning, typical development, and systems furniture layout
  • Compile detailed inventory of existing product (stored or on-site) & record information with minimal assistance
  • Development of installation drawings
  • Basic understanding of Building Codes, ADA requirements, and Electrical/Data requirements applied to a project
  • Check all drawings and specifications for 100% accuracy
  • Assist to define the scope of a project, assess customer needs and program design applications
  • Active and thoughtful participation in client interactions and programming sessions

  • A minimum five-year practical experience in commercial furniture design and planning.
  • Proficiency in CET Designer is required.
  • MillerKnoll product knowledge is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Professional
