Purpose
Floor & Decor Designers provide a seamless start‑to‑finish consultative design service that builds lasting relationships and brand loyalty with customers. Designers meet with customers, listen to their project needs, educate them on all that is required for their project, and build a creative design concept that incorporates the customer's personal style, lifestyle, and budget.
Pay Range
$17.75 – $24.65 per hour.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum of one year of interior design experience or prior retail/sales experience.
- Degree in Design is a plus.
- Knowledge of hard surface flooring is a plus.
- Proficient in basic mathematical skills.
- Must be self‑motivated and able to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office suite.
- Internal candidates must have 12 months of experience in a design consultant position.
Essential Functions
- Greet store customers in a helpful manner and support store design walk‑in needs.
- Schedule design appointments for existing and potential customers while developing clientele through networking, referrals, and leads generated within the store.
- Provide tile, wood, stone, and accessories advice to homeowners, interior designers, and builders for residential and commercial projects.
- Design and sell complete, functional, and aesthetically appealing solutions.
- Manage multiple simultaneous customer projects through all phases with a high level of accuracy, timeliness, and follow‑up, including consistent and concise communication to customers and colleagues; proficiency in company communication tools and email is required.
- Collaborate with store leadership and employees to manage projects from inquiry to installation and achieve sales and other goals.
- Enthusiastically support all company initiatives and goals by modeling and coaching best practices with store employees.
- Engage in current and emerging design trends in the market.
- Use design applications such as Salesforce, proprietary online design appointment scheduler, and MyProject.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)
- Limited travel may be required by car.
- While performing job duties, the employee is frequently exposed to a warehouse environment with moving vehicles; noise level is typically moderate to noisy.
Physical/Sensory Requirements
Medium work: ability to exert 20–50 pounds of force occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; use of hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee may occasionally stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
