Genius AI, part of HearstLab, is seeking a Senior Design Systems Designer to own the vision for our design system, elevate craft, and multiply every designer's impact as we scale and rebrand. You will architect a robust component library, define tokens, and build Figma libraries to support a consistent visual language across web and mobile.

Collaborating with engineers, PMs, and designers, you’ll drive the design-to-dev handoff, ensure accessibility, govern documentation, and mentor teammates

Qualifications

• 4+ years of product design experience with design systems focus.
• Proven track record leading design system initiatives in production.
• Expert-level Figma skills with components, variables, auto layout.
• Strong systems thinking and scalable design approach.
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams without heavy oversight.

Job description

Genius AI is looking for a Senior Design Systems Designer to join our design systems team. In this role, you will drive the vision for our design system, raise the bar for craft, and become a force multiplier for every designer and engineer at Genius AI. As we scale, invest in AI across our product, and undergo a company-wide rebrand, the design system is more critical than ever. We’re seeking someone who can take real ownership, operate with minimal oversight, influence cross-functional partners, and help shape the future of design systems at Genius AI.

Responsibilities will include:

• Own the vision and execution of our design system, defining standards, driving adoption, and evolving the system as the product scales
• Architect and maintain a robust component library with well-documented, reusable UI components for mobile and web
• Lead the development of design tokens, Figma libraries, variables, and naming conventions to support a scalable, consistent visual language
• Drive the design-to-dev handoff process, partnering closely with engineering to bridge Figma and production and reduce friction in every release
• Champion accessibility, quality, and craft standards across every component and pattern in the system
• Own documentation and governance, making the system easy to understand, adopt, and contribute to across the organization
• Play a key role in our company-wide rebrand, ensuring the new visual language is systematized and applied consistently across the product
• Identify and implement tooling efficiencies, including AI-powered workflows, to improve team velocity and output quality
• Mentor and collaborate with other designers, raising the craft level of the broader team
• Influence roadmap and prioritization for the design systems team, bringing a strategic point of view to what gets built and when

You’re a great fit if you:

• Have 4+ years of product design experience with significant, hands-on focus on design systems, component libraries, or design infrastructure
• Have a portfolio that shows strong UI craft alongside end-to-end product thinking
• Have a proven track record of owning and scaling a design system in a production environment, not just contributing, but leading
• Possess expert-level Figma skills, including components, variables, auto layout, libraries, and prototyping
• Are a deep systems thinker who sees patterns others miss, builds for edge cases, and designs with scale in mind from day one
• Are a strong cross-functional collaborator who can align engineers, PMs, and designers around shared standards without heavy oversight
• Can articulate and defend design decisions clearly, with strong opinions and communication skills
• Have a mobile-first mindset and design with that context naturally
• Have experience contributing to the pillars of a design system such as tokens, accessibility, working with code/developers, documentation, and contribution models
• Have a passion for empowering small business owners, with a high level of empathy for our customers and a strong desire to understand their needs
• Nice to have: Experience with Storybook, Tokens Studio, Style Dictionary; rebrand or platform evolution experience; curiosity about AI tools like Cursor or Claude
