Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory seeks an exceptional Physical Scientist/Engineer to advance national-security physics in the Design Physics Division. Qualifications

• Active DOE Q-level or Top-Secret clearance at hire.
• PhD in physics, engineering, or related field.
• Record of outstanding research in relevant physics/engineering areas.
• Experience with computer-based design and analysis of experiments.
• Aptitude for mastering new physics fields; breadth of understanding of complex processes.
• Experience using advanced computational facilities for applied physics analysis.
• Proficient written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Experience working independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
• Self-motivation and initiative in addressing challenging problems.

Responsibilities

• Assess complex physics interactions that occur in nuclear explosions.
• Design and analyze experiments exploring nuclear explosives physics.
• Simulate weapons phenomena and perform assessments using computer codes.
• Define and implement stockpile stewardship for specific weapons systems.
• Present results at conferences and in publications, with open and classified work as needed.
• Interact with external stakeholders at DOE/NNSA and interagency partners.
• Develop expertise in interrelated physics fields for weapons assessment.
• Travel minimally or substantially based on project needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• SES.3: Independently develop and assess complex physics interactions in nuclear explosions.
• SES.3: Serve as technical expert on a multidisciplinary team.
• SES.3: Guide analysis and lead design of nuclear explosives experiments.
