Job summary

Arlington County is seeking Design Engineers I, II, or III to join its Engineering Bureau, delivering surveying, design and construction management for public works projects in Arlington County, Virginia. The multi-grade role spans junior to senior levels with a structured salary ladder and opportunities for telework.

Positions require Civil Engineering degree and CAD software experience; PE/EIT and additional certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Autodesk Civil3D or similar CAD software experience required.
• Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience (Desirable).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) designation preferred.
• PMI- PMP, LEED AP/ENV SP certifications and other licenses are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering expertise and coordination for the Bureau and stakeholders.
• Develop and review detailed design/construction plans, estimates and reports.
• Coordinate project implementation to meet timelines and budget within regulatory requirements.
• Oversee external consultants for quality and compliance.
• Coordinate with surveyors/real estate to determine acquisition needs and easements.
• Prepare materials and participate in pre-bid meetings and public engagements.
• Analyze problems and recommend optimal solutions based on project goals.
• Conduct field inspections and verify information with survey teams and contractors.
• Perform feasibility studies considering technical, economic, and environmental factors.
