Job summary

Toyota Automated Logistics seeks a Design Engineer Intern to develop equipment designs for integration into distribution and production solutions at our Greenfield, IN site. This on-site, full-time internship includes stipend or living assistance if you are not in the Central Indiana area.

The role involves collaborating with Automation, Controls and Commissioning engineers to craft 3D layouts, prepare installation drawings, and support ongoing design activities across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Technology highly preferred.
  • Technical writing and documentation experience is highly preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience required or preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Modify, critique, and release equipment designs per customer and Toyota Automated Logistics specifications and standards.
  • Collaborate with Automation, Controls, or Commissioning engineers to create 3D layouts for system studies.
  • Create detailed installation and layout drawings.
  • Troubleshoot and modify manufactured equipment, updating SolidWorks models and drawings to create As-Built packages prior to shipment.
  • Communicate schedules, design concepts, and training to personnel at Toyota Automated Logistics and end user facilities.
  • Create and modify mechanical manuals, preventive maintenance schedules and tasks, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Attend training and become certified in applicable technologies or programs.
  • Be a team member and contributor within the office, providing help outside of department scope when required.
  • Deliver projects that meet or exceed customer’s expectations, developing repeat customers.

Job Description

A Design Engineer Intern with Toyota Automated Logistics collaborates with coworkers, customers, and suppliers to utilize the latest technologies while creating equipment design for integration into distribution, production solutions and other material handling components/units.This involves understanding the customer’s goals and objectives in order to develop and support smart engineered solutions.

This position is an on-site full time internship in Greenfield IN.

The team will consider candidates outside of the Central Indiana /Indianapolis area, as this internship does have stipend/living assistance to help off-set living expenses if you're currently not residing in Central Indiana/Indianapolis area.

Job Duties:

  • Modify, critique, and release equipment designs per customer and Toyota Automated Logistics specifications and standards
  • Collaborate with Automation, Controls, or Commissioning engineers to create 3D layouts for system studies
  • Create detailed installation and layout drawings
  • Troubleshoot and modify manufactured equipment, creating red line drawings, updating SolidWorks models and drawings to create As-Built packages prior to shipment
  • Effectively communicate schedules, design concepts, and training to personnel at Toyota Automated Logistics and end user facilities
  • Create and modify mechanical manuals, preventative maintenance schedules and tasks, and troubleshooting guides
  • Attend training and become certified in applicable technologies or programs
  • Be a team member and contributor within the office, providing help outside of department scope when required
  • Deliver projects that meet or exceed customer’s expectations, developing repeat customers
  • Attend meetings and functions on time with active involvement
  • Research new components and materials, providing recommendations for adoption into standards
  • Coordinate with other engineers or teams to ensure all components are accounted for across disciplines
  • Support project installations and post-startup mechanical maintenance trips
  • Position will be onsite at our Custom Automation plant in Greenfield, IN

Travel:

  • Less than 5% travel (travel expense paid by company)

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Technology highly preferred
  • Technical writing and documentation experience is highly preferred
  • AutoCAD experience
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA long term without sponsorship.
