Job summary

Kier is seeking a Design Engineer to join our civil, structural and geotechnical team across the UK. You will contribute to temporary works design, review permanent designs for buildability, and support tenders through preconstruction planning, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.

The role offers hybrid working options, with flexible hours and opportunities to work from home part of the week. Chartered status or progression toward CEng/IEng is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Working towards CEng or IEng or equivalent experience.
• Experience in temporary works design and/or management.

Responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings and models for temporary works and related designs.
• Acting as Project Lead for simpler projects, managing scope, programme and relationships with teams from bid through delivery.

Design Engineer

We're looking for civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK.

Locations

Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth - agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired

Hours

40 hours per week - flexibility on hours available if desired

• Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards?
• Working towards Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng or IEng) or of equivalent experience?

What will you be responsible for?

Contributing to the delivery of a broad range of complex construction engineering services, including some or all of: temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.

Main responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE procedures and QA processes
• Acting as Project Lead for simpler projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery
• Developing yourself, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges.
