Job summary

Karman Space & Defense in Mukilteo, WA is seeking a Design Engineer III to lead the design of aerospace structures, mechanisms, and mechanical systems. You will drive concept development, perform analyses, generate documentation and BOMs, and support manufacturing, testing, and delivery.

You will also mentor junior engineers. Requirements include a BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Eng, 4–7 years in aerospace/defense, proficiency in SolidWorks and CAD/CAE tools, and a DoD Secret clearance or ability

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
• 4–7 years of aerospace and/or defense experience
• Solid understanding of multiple mechanical engineering technologies
• Proven experience leading the design of robust hardware
• Detailed knowledge of design-based military and commercial specs
• Proficient in SolidWorks; GD&T experience
• Current DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain one

Responsibilities

• Lead design of mechanical structures, mechanisms, and systems per customer requirements and standards
• Create 2-D layouts and 3-D models, BOMs, and specs
• Perform mechanical engineering calculations and analyses for safety and compliance
• Review peers’ and juniors’ design work and calculations
• Evaluate designs for manufacturability, cost, and quality
• Support manufacturing, assembly, testing, and deployment
• Prepare proposals and support business development
• Document requirements, test plans, procedures, and reports
• Support bench and field testing
• Mentor junior engineers
