Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is seeking a Design Engineer II to join our Space and Launch engineering team in Mukilteo, WA. You will conceptualize, design, test, and deploy aerospace structures and mechanisms, including high-energy actuation systems, with focus on robust hardware and compliance with military and commercial specs.

The role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, testing, and collaboration, with opportunities to mentor juniors and contribute to proposals and business development while

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent experience.
• Typically 2–5 years of aerospace or defense experience.
• Solid understanding of multiple engineering technologies.
• Demonstrated experience designing robust hardware.
• Detailed knowledge of design-based military and commercial specifications.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering tasks and contribute to subsystem- and component-level design.
• Produce drawings, BOMs, manufacturing requirements, and inspection specs.
• Support manufacturing, assembly, QA, testing, and deployment from concept to delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance as needed.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure feasible, compliant designs.
