Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is seeking a Design Engineering Manager to lead a large design engineering group in Mukilteo, WA. You will centralize labor demand, manage staffing across programs, and ensure engineering standards and training are delivered effectively.

The role requires 7+ years in design engineering, 5+ years in leadership (2+ in aerospace), a BS in engineering, and the ability to obtain or hold a DoD Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in design-engineering environments.
• 5+ years in engineering leadership, incl. 2+ years in aerospace.
• Experience with resource planning and scheduling.
• Ability to mentor and grow engineering staff.
• DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Ability translating ambiguous requests into staffable work packages.

Responsibilities

• Consolidate labor demand across programs into a single functional view.
• Serve as traffic control for functional resource requests.
• Drive proactive hiring by identifying staffing gaps.
• Allocate resources across programs to balance workload.
• Track assignments and monitor utilization.
• Coordinate engineering standards and training delivery.
• Maintain qualification ladders and monitor time-to-independant-qualification.
• Support scoping engineering tasks into clear work packages.
• Collaborate with program leads on schedule and effort.
• Identify required skill sets and route technical calls.
