Job summary

The Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. in Freedom, PA seeks a design engineer to support the Critical Power Solutions Division.

You will design and document cooling systems for data center IT products, create drawings, BOMs and instruction books, and analyze test data to ensure performance meets specs. Collaboration with engineering, manufacturing and suppliers is required, along with leading design, test and prototype activities and occasional travel to customer sites, vendors, and trade

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience with cooling systems in data centers or commercial applications.
• Strong knowledge of ASHRAE cooling standards and applicability.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to read, understand, and create technical drawings and material.
• Ability to work in a team and handle multiple projects concurrently.
• Proficiency with CAD/engineering analysis software and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Support product engineering activities for data center and IT cooling products.
• Prepare technical documents (drawings, BOMs, IBs) for orders, manufacturing and customers.
• Review/test data to establish performance standards and verify design specs.
• Provide technical input for customer proposals.
• Assist in development and operation of cooling product test labs.
• Address customer technical questions and concerns.
• Develop concepts and collaborate with engineering team to complete designs.
• Support manufacturing, purchasing and quality assurance with production problems.
• Recommend design improvements and cost-reductions.
• Lead design, test and prototype programs as assigned.
• Coordinate with vendors to resolve technical design issues.
• Interface with certification agencies (UL, Intertek) for compliance.
• Travel to customer sites, vendors, and trade shows as needed.

Job description

Provide all design engineering drawings and documents as related to customer orders, support manufacturing efforts and provide customer support on all products of the Critical Power Solutions Division (CPSD). This position must sit in Freedom, PA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Support product engineering activities for data center and IT cooling products
• Prepare technical documents (ex. drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), Instruction Book (IBs), etc.) required to support order placements, manufacturing/assembly operations, and customer needs.
• Review and analyze test data to establish performance standards and to confirm if designs meet functional and performance specifications.
• Provide technical expertise and support for the development and review of customer proposals.
• Assist in the development and operation of cooling products test labs.
• Seek and resolve customer technical questions as required.
• Develop and design concepts and work with other Engineering personnel to complete designs.
• Assist Manufacturing, Purchasing and Quality Assurance with production problems.
• Recommend and implement design improvements and cost reductions.
• Act as project leader for all design, test, and prototype programs as assigned.
• Work with vendors to resolve any technical design issues.
• Coordinate with certification agencies (i.e. UL, Intertek) to obtain and maintain product compliance certifications.
• Travel to customer sites, vendor locations, and/or trade shows to provide product support as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 3-5 years of experience with cooling systems, or equivalent education and experience.
• Advanced knowledge of cooling equipment applications in data centers and commercial applications.
• Advanced knowledge of ASHRAE and other cooling standards and their applicability to products and applications.
• Advanced interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills required to communicate with customers, employees, and vendors.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read, understand, and create technical drawings and material.
• Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.
• Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office products, Computational Fluid Dynamics software, and CAD and engineering analysis software.
