Job summary

Southland Industries in Schertz, Texas seeks a Design Engineer II to perform complex calculations, drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing and other systems. You will model, size equipment, and prepare design layouts for estimating, supporting project phases.

You will lead on-site field surveys, respond to RFIs, ensure code compliance, and mentor junior engineers. A four-year engineering degree and strong communication skills are required; PE preferred and experience in building systems

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in Engineering or related field.
  • PE License preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable systems design (fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and general understanding of system operations.
  • Ability to read construction documents.
  • Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office products such as Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex calculations for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection or other systems.
  • Performs complex modeling, drawings and specifications.
  • Prepares preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
  • May be responsible for a single phase of a project.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Performs on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
  • Assists in writing technical narratives and responses to RFIs.
  • Responsible for Code compliance.
