Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced engineer to lead and evaluate projects ranging from new design/build to rehabilitation of facilities. You will provide technical guidance, perform complex calculations, and manage design deliverables for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems.

The role requires a four-year engineering degree (PE preferred) and at least 3 years of experience, with strong reading of construction documents and proficient CAD and MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License preferred.
• Minimum 3 years' experience.
• Ability to read construction documents.
• Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, such as Excel

Responsibilities

• Lead, evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on new design/build and rehabilitation projects.
• Perform complex modeling, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection or other systems.
• Perform complex calculations for a project (heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, friction loss, hydraulic calculations).
• Prepare preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• Provide guidance to less experienced engineers and may be responsible for a single project phase.
• Conduct on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
• Assist in writing technical narratives and responses to RFIs; ensure code compliance.
• On-site field leadership and technical guidance to ensure project success.

Position Details

• Performs more complex modeling, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection or other systems
• Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.
• Prepares preliminary redline design layouts for estimating
• May be responsible for a single phase of a project
• Provides guidance to less experienced engineers
• Performs on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
• Assists in writing technical narratives and responses to RFIs
• Responsible for Code compliance

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field
• PE License preferred
• Minimum 3 years' experience
• Basic knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.
• Ability to read construction documents.
• Strong verbal and written technical communication skills
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, such as Excel
