Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a seasoned Preconstruction Manager to lead the design-build/design-assist preconstruction process. You will manage design and detailing schedules, monitor progress, and handle the financial aspects of design contracts to ensure high-quality projects on time and within budget.

You will develop client relationships, coordinate with cross-functional teams including architects and other contractors, and communicate goals and schedules with business development,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction science or equivalent training/experience.
  • 6+ years of progressive engineering or construction management experience.
  • PE licensure preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office and Autodesk products (Revit).
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team while meeting deadlines.
  • Understanding of MEP calculations, building codes, standards, and MEP system costs.
  • Ability to develop design tasks and distribute work among the design team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preconstruction process for design-build and design-assist projects, managing design and detailing schedules.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships; coordinate with cross-functional teams including other disciplines and architects.
  • Communicate goals and schedules with business development, engineering, estimating, and project management; assess risk and align construction schedules.
  • Manage all financial aspects of design contracts (costs, billings, and collections) to maintain profitability and cash flow.
  • Coordinate engineering resources to support estimating and provide engineering support to business development during pursuits.
  • Develop standards, methods, processes, and procedures for the engineering department; train junior team members and ensure compliance with codes and design instructions.
  • Develop and maintain document control to ensure compliance with requirements and standards.
  • Plan and coordinate on-site field surveys to collect and deliver design and engineering data.
  • Assist in early procurement leveling efforts as required by the project.

Job description
