Job summary

Southland Industries in Pflugerville, Texas is seeking an experienced design engineer to contribute to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection projects. You will perform calculations, prepare drawings and specifications, and ensure code compliance for assigned projects.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering, with 2+ years of experience, and strong communication skills. A PE license is preferred; proficiency in reading plans and MS Office (Excel) is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience.
• In-depth knowledge of applicable systems design (e.g., fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing).
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• Microsoft Office products, including Excel.

Responsibilities

• Provides conceptual design for HVAC, plumbing or other systems.
• Performs complex calculations, drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or other systems.
• Calculations may include heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, friction/hydraulic calculations.
• May be responsible for a single phase of a project.
• Provides guidance to less experienced engineers.
• Responsible for Code compliance.

Job description

Provides conceptual design for specific projects and performs calculations, drawings and specifications relevant to HVAC, plumbing or other systems.

• Performs more complex calculations, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or other systems
• Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.
• May be responsible for a single phase of a project
• Provides guidance to less experienced engineers
• Responsible for Code compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
• PE License preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience
• In-depth knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills
• Microsoft Office Products, including as Excel
